Cleaning a Plastic Tub

This plastic tub of mine is evil; I hate it. Even after hours of scrubbing, there is still a layer of dirt that won’t go away. I have tried almost everything from commercial products to all natural and Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Currently a mixture of soap and vinegar cuts through most of the soap scum and dirt but it can get all of the dirty spots. A combination of hot water, vinegar and baking soda sprinkled on top gets 90%%of the remaining stains when scrubbed with a magic eraser. I’m feeling at a loss here but I’m going to try one more experiment before I determine that the tub will never be as clean as I want it to be.

Here’s my idea. I’m going to make three pastes, one with baking soda and water, one with baking soda and soap, one with baking soda and bleach (yes, I am that desperate for a clean tub) then scrub them with a magic eraser after they’ve set for 20 or so minutes. Wish me luck in my final battle with the plastic nemesis.

Happy Cleaning.

  1. I have a gas cook top. I have been very diligent since we bought it to try to keep any grease stains off if it. It is black almost impossible to keep clean. Anyway, it now has little grease spots on it. I have tried everything I can think of to get it off, Krud Kutter, special cleaners for gas stove tops, homemade cleaners etc, nothing is working, can you help?

  2. I have a fiberglass tub, it is beige and has what I think are soap stains. I am at a loss. I have tried scrubbing bubbles, comet, and just plain elbow grease, nothing is taking it off. Please help me.

    • Linda, have you read my other post on cleaning the tub? I would try that method if you have some serious soap scum and if that doesn’t work, try a paste of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Magic erasers might work as well if you have some. I hope this helps!
