How Cleaning (Smart) Saves You Money

Although cleaning your home may feel like a small expense (with the constant buying of cleaning supplies, cleaning services, and not to mention the invaluable use of time) but it can actually save you money.

The old adage that “it takes money to make money” does apply here, but luckily, I know some tricks that can keep your bank accounts happy along the way.

Here’s how cleaning smart can save you money:

Clean appliances run longer, better, and use less energy.
We all know how gross a dusty refrigerator can be, but did you know that a dusty refrigerator can actually cost you more money? When the coils are dirty, the refrigerator has to use more energy to cool itself down. This can cause the fridge to break or to hike up your electricity bills. Remember to clean the coils in the back of your fridge once every couple of months to ensure a long life for the appliance.

In addition to refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, washers and dryers, ovens, etc. can all use the same TLC.

Neglectful cleaning could cause a major accident.
One of the easiest ways to start a house fire is to forget to clean out your dryer lint cage every single time that you put in a new load. It’s also a good idea to schedule a dryer vent cleaning once every year or so in order to prevent a very costly accident from happening.

Besides paying attention to your dryer vents, cleaning regularly can give you a good “feel” for what your house is supposed to look and act like every day. For example, if you clean regularly, you will be able to notice a leaking pipe more quickly and prevent costly water damage repairs.

• Using “green” cleaning products is healthier and cheaper
When keeping up with the regular maintenance of your home, homemade green cleaning products just make more sense. Homemade products can typically be made from the contents in your kitchen cabinets and contain no harsh chemicals or residues. Plus, these homemade cleaning products are less likely to trigger symptoms of allergies or asthma, reducing the amount of times you would need to pay for medication or doctor’s trips.

You’ll never buy duplicates again.
How many times have you bought a new box of cereal because you couldn’t find the breakfast foods in the shuffle of the pantry. Be neat and organized and this will lead to accumulating less stuff. Take an inventory of home necessities and donate or sell the rest online. You’ll be much happier, trust me.

Do you have any other ways that cleaning helps you save money? I would love to hear about them in the comment section below!
