I consider myself to be good at cleaning, however, sometimes it takes me a while to get around to cleaning specific things. For example, the bottom half of my shower curtain has pink polka dots and not the fun kind. Does this really bother me? Nope. There are worse things in life than having a little bit of pink on the shower curtain (like cockroaches in the kitchen, blech). Therefore, I only do this task every month or so. Removing Mildew from the Shower Curtain
Okay so maybe, just maybe a lot of pink.
Step One: Get your favorite homemade cleaner. I used a mixture of vinegar, warm water and a squirt of dishsoap.
The vinegar kills the mold and removes hard water stains and the soap helps get the soap scum.
It’s true, that’s what I say when combating cleaning bathroom buildup.
Step Two: Spray and let the cleaner work some magic.
I work my way from the top down so the solution will dribble down pre-soaking the next section.
Sorry about the weird lighting but it really shows how much build up there was.
Step Three: Wipe. I held the shower curtain against the tub then between my hands to get the bottom seam.
Much, much better.
Step Four: Admire clean shower curtain.
Goodbye pink moldy spots, I won’t miss you.

Thanks for reading! Yes this should work. The vinegar should be able to cut right through the hard water. If you want a better smelling solution, cut a lemon in half, dip it in salt and scrub.
I like to let my washer do the work. I take down the shower curtain. I put it in the washing machine. I add two towels. I add vinegar to the soap dispenser, and run it on a normal cycle. When it is done, I hang the shower curtain back up to dry. And I have a clean shower curtain.

Wow!! That worked so well. I hate when the shower curtain gets that slime. I’ll have to try this.

An easier way is to wash it in your washer. Hot water, 1 Cup bleach, and a small amount of laundry detergent. Wash on full load. When done hang up your shower curtain and it looks new. It will take a couple of showers for it to become straight again. I use this and it is so easy. I clean my whole shower and tub while I am waiting for it to finish in the washer.
Probably more efficient. :) I spent about 15 minutes total cleaning which it about the amount of time I would spend trying to get the shower curtain down.

I usually just throw it in the washer, but this is so much easier to NOT remove it!
Am I the only one here that has issues getting the shower curtain down or lacks the patience to do so? :)
thats the same solution i often use to clean my tub so it makes sense to do the shower curtain as well! I usually throw it in the washer when i wash towels, but hate that it comes out with puddles of water and makes all the towels wet again.

Great tip! Vinegar works on so many things. I have two shower curtains, the nicer one outside and a cheap one on the inside. When the cheap one gets nasty, I just replace it with another one from the dollar store.

We agree, this is a good solution. Since shower curtains are generally not that expensive, no sense in spending a lot of time or money on the solution. Vinegar fits the bill.
A few drops of melaleuca (tea tree oil) in any homemade cleaning solution will help to keep mold away.
